I only need health insurance for 1 – 3 months…

Short-term plans are similar to major medical health plans, except they are designed to provide coverage for only 1 to 3 months (30 - 90 days).

Benefits of Short Term Health Insurance
  • Coverage as early as tomorrow
  • Cheaper than ACA plans
  • Quick application
  • Discounts for pre-payment
  • May let you keep your doctors

Things to keep in mind when purchasing Short Term Coverage:

Short Term medical plans are not ACA complaint health plans

  • ACA health plans are guaranteed issue, meaning that you cannot be denied coverage based on preexisting conditions. Short term medical plans are not guaranteed issue. Coverage can be denied for preexisting conditions.
  • ACA plans are required to cover 10 essential benefits, including maternity and newborn care, mental health and substance abuse disorder service. Short term plans vary in what they cover. Check your plan details carefully.
  • Tax penalties still apply, unless you are exempt
  • You could end up with a coverage gap if your short-term ends and you are not eligible for a special enrollment period
